How to Find Someone in Jail

Use the person’s full legal name and date of birth to check the official county locator. If the record is not visible yet, call Hutch—new bookings can take time to enter the public system.

Call before you drive anywhere

Start with the right name, county, and official locator. With 30 years serving Greater Los Angeles, Hutch can confirm the facility, amount, and right bond system while you are on the phone.

Los Angeles County uses the LASD Inmate Information Center. Ventura and Santa Barbara sheriff departments operate their own official search tools.

An ICE locator is separate from county systems. A transfer or detainer can make a person disappear from one locator before appearing in another.

Price and written terms

California sureties file rates with the Department of Insurance. Consumer cost is most commonly 10% of court-set bail plus actual necessary reasonable expenses. Plans are on approval, military discounts apply where the written program allows, and most qualifying criminal files do not require collateral.

Premiums are generally earned when the defendant is released and are not refunded merely because charges later drop, subject to limited surrender rules and the written agreement. Hutch explains the number and terms before money moves.

Start by phone. Finish online.

After Hutch qualifies the file, he can send secure payment and e-sign links so paperwork can be completed from a phone. Posting begins the release process; the detention facility controls the timing.

Hutch’s Bail Bonds is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. It is not a California immigration consultant or notario. County criminal, federal criminal pretrial, and ICE immigration bonds are separate products. Bond acceptance and release timing are controlled by the relevant court, agency, and detention facility. Families, the arrestee, or counsel initiate contact.
